Osei-Ameyaw gets the nod to contest Asuogyaman seat

Akosombo, May 9, GNA – Mr Kofi Osei Ameyaw, Deputy Minister for Tourism and Diaspora Relations and Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman, has been re-elected to contest the seat.

He polled 79 votes to defeat his main opponent, Mr Paul Ansah Asare, who had 41 out of the 120 votes cast.

Mr Osei Ameyaw thanked the delegates and pledged to work hard to retain the seat for the NPP.

Mr Yaw Gyekye Amoabeng, Eastern Regional Chairman of the party, called on the party supporters to bury their differences and unite towards victory in December.

He urged the party officials and supporters in the constituency to propagate the good policies and programmes of the party to the people for them to know what the government had done for Ghanaians over the past seven years.

At Atiwa hundreds of supporters of the party who thronged the Presbyterian Church premises at Asaman Tamfoe near Anyinam to witness the constituency primary had a shock when their favourite candidate, Mr Kwasi Amoako Attah, was defeated by Mr Kwasi Annoh Ankamah from the Office of the President.

Mr Ankamah polled 67 votes to defeat Mr Amoako Attah, a legal practitioner and a Presiding Member of the Atiwa District Assembly.

After the election some of the disappointed supporters of Mr Amoako Attah hurled insults at the poling station chairmen for rejecting their man.

Mr Owusu Adjei, one of the supporters, alleged that Mr Ankamah distributed money to the delegates the previous night and threatened that some of them would vote “skirt and blouse” come December.

At Fanteakwa Mr Kwabena Amankwa Asiamah, a business man polled 100 votes to defeat two other candidates, Kofi Okyere Agyekum who had 81 votes and Stephen Djan, 6 votes.

Mr Asiamah promised to retain the seat for the party and therefore called for total support from the loosing candidates.
