Orphanage appeals for assistance

Accra, Feb. 16, GNA – The Greater Accra Regional branch of Friends of the Village of Hope (FOVOH), a non governmental organisation, has appealed to the Government, philanthropists and organisations to support inmates of the Gomoa-Fetteh Orphanage in the Central Region. Mr Daniel Yeboah Manko, Public Affairs Officer of FOVOH, addressing a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, said FOVOH catered for the over 600 inmates at the orphanage.

He said it had established a school, orphanages, hospital and a vocational training centre to assist the needy in society. Mr Manko said one of the buildings was being used as a vocational training centre where street children were taught employable skills but currently lacked some facilities to provide a holistic care for the children.

“Plans are underway to establish a senior high school, a university, and 10 houses for the orphanage but needs more support to achieve its objective,” he added. Mr Peter Kyere, a representative of the orphanage, said FOVOH had assisted the inmates for some years now but due to the increase in number, it had encountered some challenges which needed the assistance of other corporate bodies.
