Operate within the confines of the law – IGP

Kumasi, Nov. 8, GNA – Nana Owusu Nsiah, Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has cautioned police personnel to ensure that they operate strictly within the confines of the law and the Code of ethics of the Service.

This, he said, was the only way they could win the confidence and support of the public.

Nana Owusu Nsiah said these in a speech read on his behalf at the closing of a three-day seminar on human rights for Station Officers in the Ashanti region in Kumasi sponsored by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).

The seminar was designed to help the Police Officers to appreciate the need to respect the fundamental rights of people they come into contact with in the discharge of their duties.

Nana Owusu Nsiah noted that police-public relationship could be strengthened and sustained if police officers showed competence and impartiality in their work.

This he said would promote law and order in the communities.

Meanwhile, Danny Praise Computers Company has presented a computer and accessories valued at about six million cedis to the Ashanti Regional Police Administration.

Mr Daniel Agyei, Managing Director, said it was the company’s contribution to help improve facilities of the service to enhance their performance.
