Only three of 14 women contestants elected in Agona district

Agona Swedru (C/R), Sept 30, GNA – Only three out of 14 women who contested the District and Unit Committee elections in the Agona District were able to clinch victory.

Mrs Gladys Afuah Kwateemaah Yamoah, a news presenter on the Agona Swedru Golden Star FM, won at the Agona Kwanyako Salem/Ahorso Electoral Area, Madam Beatrice Mbir, a Businesswoman won the Bebianiha seat while Ms Mary Otwey, a Teacher, was elected for Mankrong-Junction. Mr Kwame Amoah, District Electoral Officer, told the Ghana News Agency that Mrs Yamoah’s votes might be the highest for any contestant in the District and probably in the Central Region with 918 out of the 1,178 votes.

According to the District Electoral Officer, 15 out of 26 incumbent contestants were re-elected. 30 Sept. 06
