Ohio church helps needy pupils at Have

Have (VR), April 25, GNA – Thirty-five brilliant but needy pupils selected from all the six basic schools of Have in the Hohoe District were presented with scholarships at the weekend.

Each of the pupils selected from primary four to junior secondary school two, received 100,000 cedis from the E.P. Church, Ghana and Zion United Church of Christ (EPC/ZUCC) Education Endowment Fund.

Mr Emmanuel M.M Agradi, Secretary to the EPC/ZUCC Committee, said the fund was established through the efforts of Rev Dr Seth Senyo Agidi, a citizen of Have and Principal of the E.P. Church Seminary at Peki. He said Rev Dr Agidi travelled last year to Zion United Church of Christ, Baltic in Ohio, US, at the invitation of Rev Sharon Jacobson. Zion United Church of Christ accepted a friendship proposal to establish a fund for the scholarship and adopted the Sunday school of the Have Etoe E.P. Church.

Mr Agradi said the sister church donated 1,180 dollars towards the development of the Sunday school and it was decided to use the fund to promote education in the area.

He appealed to benevolent organisations, non-governmental organisations, philanthropists and individuals to contribute to the fund so that it could be sustained and also reach out to students at the second cycle institutions.

Mr Agradi advised the maiden beneficiaries not to rest on their oars but to work to achieve academic excellence. He said the scholarship was for only one academic year subject to review and renewal if one’s performance was encouraging.
