Officials who purchased state vehicles lack integrity – Nunoo-Mensah

Former Chief of Defence Staff under the NDC government, Brigadier-General Nunoo-Mensah, has described as ‘wrong and nonsensical’ the practice where government officials are allowed to purchase state vehicles.
According to Brigadier-General Nunoo-Mensah, the action smacks of sheer wickedness and a ‘lack of integrity’ on the part of persons who perpetrate such acts at the expense of the tax-payer.

Commenting on the issue of some missing cars at the Presidency on TV3’s Hot Issues, Mr. Nunoo-Mensah said though he is not in support of the formation of a tax force to retrieve such property of the state, government needs to find a way to reclaim ‘missing’ or ‘stolen’ state property and punish people who are found to have perpetrated the act.

He attributed the menace to the dwindling moral standards of Ghanaians in recent time adding that ‘people are now adored for stealing money…’

He says until a conscious effort is made to nip the situation in the bud, the country will likely suffer similar challenges in future.

More than 200 state vehicles are reported ‘missing’, a situation that has compelled the Akufo-Addo-led administration to set up a task force to search for and retrieve all the missing vehicles. President Akufo-Addo is said to be using his personal cars for official duties due to the situation.
