Official suggests awards schemes for workers

Nkoranza (B/A), June 5, GNA – A medical assistant at Nkoranza has suggested to metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies to institute award schemes to honour outstanding workers to boost their morale and to increase productivity.

Mr. Sylvanus Be-ir, who is in charge of the health centre at Nkoranza, said the honour should not necessarily be the presentation of television sets, refrigerators, gas cookers or any expensive items to the awardees.

“Such workers can even be presented with certificates of honour so they can also feel proud to continue to serve diligently for others to emulate”, he told the GNA in an interview. Mr Be-ir, a citizen of Flemuo in Sissala West District of the Upper West Region, said a similar award scheme had been set up in the area for health workers who would accept postings to the area. He said the scheme had encouraged health workers to work effectively towards the development of the area and called on Nkoranza North and Nkoranza South District Assemblies to organise workers’ days to honour workers.

“The Nkoranza district directorate of education some time ago instituted an education day during which hard working teachers and workers of the directorate were presented with awards and this can be copied by the assemblies”, he said. 05 June 09
