Obuasikrom (Ashanti), 26 Jan.’99 –
With a surtax on each head-load of cocoa, the people of Obuasikrom, a farming community in the Atwima District, have completed work on a quarters to accommodate teachers posted to the town at the cost of 10 million cedis.
Nana Frimpong-Manu, chief of the town, announced this when he and the unit committee executives conducted Mr Joseph Mensah, assembly member for the area, round the project.
He said the project is their contribution towards enhancing education in the town.
Mr Kwabena Mensah, chairman of the unit committee, announced that the people had also provided 138 dual desks and teachers’ tables for the school.
Mr Kojo Adjei-Frimpong, secretary of the committee, said plans were under way to build a clinic and called for support from the asembly and the District Directorate of Health Services.
The assembly member commended the people for their initiative and hard work and urged other communities in the electoral area to emulate them.
