Obuasi municipal elects its first female presiding member

Honorable Faustina Amissah, the Assembly member representing the people of Ahansonyewodea electoral area in the Obuasi Municipality on Tuesday, 21st March, 2017 made history when she was elected as the first female Presiding Member of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly. Honorable Amissah who is a teacher by profession pulled 41 of the 53 votes cast whiles her closest contender, Honorable Gifty Owusu Afriyie pulled 10 votes with 2 votes rejected in three (3) rounds of election.

Reading her acceptance speech, Honorable Faustina Amissah thanked the Assembly members for reposing confidence in her. She pledged to make the welfare of Assembly members her topmost priority whiles acknowledging the fact that the she will need the support of all and sundry to push forward the development agenda of the mining town.
In a related development, seventeen (17) Government appointees have been sworn into office as Assembly Members of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly. In a well attended ceremony, the Government appointees swore the Oath of Allegiance, Oath of Secrecy and the Official oath as administered by His Worship Michael Ampadu, the Magistrate of the Obuasi Circuit Court.
The Acting Municipal Chief Executive who is also the Municipal Coordinating Director for Obuasi, Mr. Charles Oteng advised the newly sworn in Assembly members to be diligent in their work and prioritize the activities of the Municipal Assembly.
Mr. Charles Oteng also presented a citation to Honorable David Odoom of the News Nsuta Auntie ‘B’ Electoral area who emerged as the Best Assembly member for the year ending 2016. He also took home a 32 inch LED Flat Screen television.

BACKGROUND
The Swearing in of Government appointees and the election of Presiding member of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly which was originally scheduled to take place last month was hit with a Court injunction by one Aaron Boafo, a teacher who had issues with the processes. The matter was however amicably settled out of court.
Chiefs, Heads of Department, the Media and the general public were all present on the day.
