The Obuasi Mine Hospital is to undergo massive upgrading to raise the quality of health care services to people in the gold mining town and its surrounding communities.
Mr. Kelepile Dintwe, Vice President of AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, said an intensive care unit would be established and the existing facilities improved.
AngloGold Ashanti Health Foundation (AGAHF) would provide the funding with support from Project CURE, an American-based NGO – touching lives of patients, families and children across more than 130 countries.
He was presenting a consignment of medical consignment and supplies including surgical and medical ward equipment, costing about US$1 million to the Foundation at a ceremony held in Obuasi.
Part of these would go to support the Obuasi Government Hospital.
Mr. Richard Cromwell, Executive Director of AGAHF, pledged to ensure that the equipment and other items would be properly handled to bring relief to the sick.
“AGAHF will also continue to provide excellent health care to the mine employees and their families, who are our major corporate clients”, he added.
He hailed Project CURE for the tremendous push it was giving to efforts at bringing quality healthcare to the company’s workers, their families and the Obuasi community in general.
Dr. Akwasi Amankwa, the Municipal Health Director, thanked the Foundation and Project CURE for the continued assistance to the Obuasi Government Hospital.
