Obuasi embarks on medical screening of food vendors

Obuasi, May 14, GNA – The Environmental Health Department of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly has embarked on a programme under which all food vendors in the municipality would be screened. The programme is expected to end this month.

A statement issued by the assembly said for the success of the screening exercise, a sensitization programme had been organized for food vendors including chop bar keepers, restaurant, hoteliers and fast foods operators.

Others included wayside food sellers and all those who carried food round for sale.

The statement said the assembly contracted officials of the Medilab Diagnostic Center at Obuasi to promote effectiveness in the screening exercise after which results made available would be certificated. “This new approach is a shift from the previous where vendors were made to get their medical screening reports from chosen health facility”. It expressed the hope that food vendors and potential ones as well as the public would co-operate to ensure its success.
