Grand Bassam, Cote d’Ivoire, Feb. 27, GNA – Nationals from West African countries in Cote d’ Ivoire have been advised not to allow political boundaries of the countries to divide them, so that they could assist in consolidating gains so far made by the ECOWAS.
Professor Cudjoe Nyamike George, Faculty of History at the University of Abidjan, said people living along the borders of ECOWAS countries should continue to consider themselves as one people and help each other in times of need.
He was speaking at the installation of Nana Tanoe Amo as chief of the Nzema community in Grand Bassam Cote d’Ivoire on Wednesday. The people of Nzema are believed to have once settled in Cote d’Ivoire in the 15th Century before moving to their present place in the Western Region of Ghana through Grand Bassam.
Prof. George appealed to Ghanaians living in Cote d’Ivoire to be law abiding and work hard to foster greater co-operation between the two countries.
Nana Tanoe also appealed to the people to live in harmony with their hosts and to avoid tendencies that could mar the good relation between the sister countries.
Madam Simeon Gbagbo, the Ivorian First lady, and some political and traditional leaders from both countries also attended the function.
