Nuhu gets the nod as MCE for Cape Coast

Cape Coast, June 16, GNA – The Cape Coast Municipal Assembly on Thursday approved the nomination of Mr Muniru Arafat Nuhu as the Municipal Chief Executive. He polled 39 votes out of the 59 votes cast representing 66 per cent, in an election supervised by the Regional Electoral Officer Mr Michael Ayimadu. Nineteen people voted against and one ballot was rejected. The Supervising High Court Judge Justice Kwei Acquaye took Mr Nuhu and two new government appointees through the official oaths.

Mr Nuhu in a speech thanked the members for voting him back into office and gave the assurance that he would continue with “his open door policy”. He, however, urged them to “forgive him of any wrong doing in the past” so that they could all forge ahead with the development of the area.

Nana Ato Arthur, Deputy Regional Minister, commended the assembly members and urged them to work in unity to enhance the development of the municipality. Mr Kofi Poku Edusei, Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, also commended the members for endorsing Mr Nuhu’s nomination and urged them to continue to give him the needed support to enhance peace and unity and the development of the municipality. He advised the members to endeavour to study the Local Government Act and the Assemblies Standing Orders to enable them to perform efficiently and also stressed the need for them to be united and work together as a team.

Mr Edusei called on the MCE to endeavour to close all communication gaps and involve all members of the Assembly in the administration of the municipality for accelerated development. Mr Nuhu, whose re-nomination sparked off a demonstration last month, by a group calling itself concerned citizens, was carried shoulder high after his re-nomination.
