NRC Distances Itself From Riad’s Arrest

The National Reconciliation Commission says its investigators are continuing their inquiries to ascertain whether the close confidant of the ex-president filmed the torture of prisoners during the PNDC era.

In his testimony to the commission last week the editor of the crusading guide newspaper Kwaku Baako Jnr alleged that Riad Hoziafeh a friend of the ex-president filmed some tortures incidents in some prisons.

Executive Secretary of the Commission Dr. Ken Attefuah says since the disclosure, investigators have initiated a series of actions to establish if indeed there were any tapes and to proceed to retrieve them if necessary.

He told JOY FM that the weekend arrest of Mr. Hoziafeh and the search of his residence by the police had nothing to do with work of the Commission despite links being drawn between the disclosure about the tapes and Mr. Hoziafeh’s arrest.

Dr. Attefuah says the police action is independent of the work of the commission.
