Sunyani(B/A), April 9, GNA – Forty-two aspiring parliamentary candidates including incumbents of the New Patriotic Party have filed nominations to vie for the 14 constituency seats of the party in Brong-Ahafo.
The party has already conducted primaries to elect aspirants to contest the remaining 10 constituency seats in the hands of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2008 elections. Mr Alfred Ofori Annye, Regional Youth Organizer, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency in Sunyani on Wednesday, said the party was yet to schedule an appropriate date for the vetting and acclamation process. The NPP holds the constituency seats at Nkoranza North and South, Tano North and South, Dormaa East and West, Asutifi North, Berekum, Sunyani East and West, Wenchi, Tain, Jaman South and Asunafo North. Mr Annye said the party was poised and working hard to capture the ‘orphan constituency seats’ held by the NDC.
He appealed to the aspiring parliamentary candidates to conduct their electioneering campaigns devoid of acrimony and rancour to avoid creating divisions in the party.
The youth leader said the impending general elections were very crucial to the NPP since it served as “a transitional period between the party and the other opposition parties, more especially the NDC”. Mr Annye charged the party’s foot-soldiers to redouble their efforts and embark on house-to-house campaign to explain the laudable and good policies of the government to woo more people to join the party for a landslide victory in December.
