NPP supporters advised to acquire membership cards

Kenyasi (Ash), Dec 27, GNA – Supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have been advised to make it a priority to acquire party membership cards to enable them to gain recognition as members of the Party.

Nana Appiah-Kubi, NPP First Vice-Chairman of the Kwabre-West Constituency who gave the advice, said merely supporting and sympathising with the NPP without acquiring any membership card does not make anyone a legitimate member of the party.

He was addressing a get-together for NPP polling agents in the Kwabre-West constituency at Kenyasi on Sunday. It was organised by Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, a former Ashanti Regional Financial Secretary of the NPP as a gesture of appreciation for their “diligence and hard work” during the elections.

Odenho Appiah also contested the NPP primaries of in constituency but lost.

He urged members to commit themselves to prompt and regular payment of their monthly dues.

Nana Appiah-Kubi stated that dues, just like membership cards, were crucial to the sustenance and functioning of the Party and should never be taken for granted by members.

Odeneho Appiah entreated the Party’s activists, who contested the primary and general elections but lost, to take their defeat in good faith and resolve to co-operate with the winners. He explained that their defeat was not because they had not found favour with the membership, but that it was because the winners had better strategies.

Odeneho Appiah commended the party’s foot soldiers for their vigilance during the elections but cautioned them against trumping on their political opponents rights while celebrating the victory. He proposed to the Constituency, Ward and Branch leaders to begin the campaign process for the 2008 general elections, and not wait until the “last days to start designing strategies for such an exercise”.
