NPP regional elections: Provisional results name three chairmen-elect

Delegates of Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) have voted in regional elections that have produced provisional results for three Regional Chairman positions, with Ignatius Kwasi Africa, Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana and Kwame Baffoe Abronye among those declared successful.

The party’s delegates across the country took part in the elections on 15 August, when regional executives were chosen in a contest that was closely fought, judging by the outcomes announced so far.

The position of Regional Chairman was regarded as the most influential of the offices contested during the exercise. Provisional results supervised and declared by officials of the Electoral Commission have identified the following candidates as Regional Chairmen-elect:

– Western Region – Ignatius Kwasi Africa
– Savannah Region – Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana
– Bono Region – Kwame Baffoe Abronye

The provisional declarations provide the current list of successful candidates for the three regional chairman positions specified in the results. They follow voting by NPP delegates across Ghana as part of the party’s process for selecting its regional executives.

The elections were held on 15 August and attracted keen competition among candidates seeking the various regional positions. While several offices were contested, the Regional Chairman role stood out because of its influence within the party’s regional structure.

In the Western Region, Ignatius Kwasi Africa emerged as the chairman-elect according to the provisional result. Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana was named chairman-elect for the Savannah Region, while Kwame Baffoe Abronye was declared the provisional winner in the Bono Region.

The results were released by Electoral Commission officials who supervised the elections. They remain provisional, and the list reflects the declarations made following the regional contests.

The NPP’s regional elections form part of the party’s wider internal exercise to elect its executives. Delegates from across the country participated in the voting, with the outcome determining the individuals set to lead the party at regional level in the positions covered by the declarations.

As things stand, Africa, Sulemana and Abronye are the three Regional Chairmen-elect identified in the provisional results: Africa representing the Western Region, Sulemana the Savannah Region and Abronye the Bono Region.
