NPP opens nominations in 45 new Constituencies tommorrow

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will Thursday October 4, 2012, open nominations in the 45 newly created constituencies for its members who want to contest the parliamentary primaries.

The nomination will be opened from October 4 to 6. Announcing the decision on Wednesday, the party’s General Secretary Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, said after a vetting of aspirants on October 9, there will be primaries in all the 45 constituencies on the 14th of October.

The NPP vehemently opposed the passage of CI 78 which has given the created 45 constituencies the needed legal backing for elections to be held there.

The CI 78 became law on Tuesday after parliament voted to reject a recommendation by the Subsidiary Committee on Legislation last Monday for the CI 78 to be annulled due to errors.

The party argued that the timing was wrong and that it could create mayhem if implemented now by the EC.

But the Electoral Commission has insisted that it intends to carry out its constitutional mandate.
