NPP, NDC must allow state institutions to work – GII

Political parties in the country especially the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been urged to allow state institutions the free hand to operate without interference.

Workers in the public sector have equally been encouraged to report acts of corruption to the appropriate authorities for the law to take its course towards a crusade in fighting the canker in state establishments.

Madam Mary Awelana Addah, programmes manager of the Ghana Integrity Initiative, Ghana’s chapter of Transparency International who gave the advise at a forum, said law enforcement institutions must be given their independence to operate in order to nib corruption in the bud devoid of political coloration

“Allow institutions mandated to work on corrupt officials to deal with them and take away the NDC/NPP so people are sanctioned well”, she stated.

They have however been warned to blow only whistles on persons who indulge in the practice of corruption but not false allegations on individuals.

Taking staff of the Sissala East District Assembly at the forum on the theme” social accountability and anti-corruption legislation for MMDAs in Ghana”, Madam Mary underscored the significance of corruption fight in nation building.

She took participants through an overview of Ghana Integrity Initiative and strengthening accountability, transparency and participation in anti corruption governance projects.

Other areas included the role of MMDAs in promoting citizen participation, existing anti corruption legal framework and the national anti- corruption action plan and open governance project.
