Jambusi (UW), Feb 06, GNA – Mr Daniel Dari Kuusono, the District Chief Executive for Wa West, has denied rumours making the rounds in some parts of the district that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was financially hard up and was using the premiums of the National Health Insurance Scheme to settle its foreign debts.
Mr Kuusono, who was addressing the people of Jambusi, a farming community in the district as part of his tour of the area, urged the people to verify issues they did not understand from their assembly members in order not to peddle falsehood.
He expressed surprise that people were still bent on confusing communities despite the fact that NHIS had taken off in many parts of the region and was working effectively.
“The NPP government is not owing anybody as you have been told and even if we are broke we shall never use your NHIS premium to settle our indebtedness. We shall continue to work tirelessly for the development of our dear country,” he told the people.
On early marriages in the area, Mr Kuusono said the district would soon enact by-laws that would take on parents and others who facilitate the elopement of girls for marriage in the area. He expressed disappointment in the high rate of elopement of girls, especially from schools for marriage adding that if the practice continued it could stifle the call for girl-child education in the country.
“The fact that you have given birth to your daughter does not give you the power to force her into marriage against her will” he said. The people of Jambusi appealed for a junior secondary school block, good roads as well as good drinking water.
