NPP introduces new party cards on 22 May

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will on Wednesday 22 May introduce a new party card to replace the existing one. President J.A. Kufuor will perform the launching ceremony at the National Theatre.

Mr Kwadwo Afari, Press Secretary of the party disclosing this to The Ghanaian Times said the introduction of the cards would enable the party to know its membership, and also use it to raise funds for its programmes and activities. It is also a means of instilling discipline in the party’s membership.

He stated that the party wants its members to be responsible and be able to take responsibilities assigned them in future. According to him, the NPP wants to break away from the old practice where individuals fund parties and occasionally would want to take them to ransom. “The NPP does not want to follow the footsteps of its predecessor, which used state funds for its programmes and activities.”

Mr Afari explained that for multi-party democracy to survive it is very necessary that all political parties rely on their core membership to fund its programme. “It is only when this is done that members can claim their due from their party.”
