At long last the legal team of Ghana’s leading Opposition party NPP has finished polishing its legal shoes, as they head to Supreme court this week with what insiders described as mind boggling evidence of consistent pattern of electoral fraud during the December 7 general elections at some polling stations across the country.
Since NPP announced its decision not to accept the December 7 presidential elections results and announced the steps the party was taking to pursue the case in the law court, some known political analysts were heard telling Ghanaians that the party was just buying time, and using the court to cover-up its defeat in the polls.
If the NPP’s case is up held by the supreme court it would go down monumentally well in African history since it may overturn the results announced by Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan on December 9, that gave President John Dramani Mahama 50.7 percent as eventual winner.
However, Mr Collins Boakye Agyarko,NPP’s 2012 Campaign Manager told THE GHANAIAN SUN “let those who are trying to deride and ridicule the party continue on that line as we keep our evidence and corroborations close to our chest since airwave is not the right platform to fight aspect these matters. “Any body who doubts bt our claim does not know what he/she is saying and is also trying to insult the leadership of NPP as party, a senior Campaign officer told paper.
To give credence to the stand of the party, the Presidential Candidate for NPP Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, used almost the whole of last week meeting some religious leaders in country to thank them, and also provide first hand information to them as to why NPP is embarking on the cause it has taken.
In a meeting with the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, the NPP leader explained that “the party came to the conclusion after examining evidence available to it, that the results that was put out by the Electoral Commission (EC) is not a true reflection of what actually transpired and that is why we have chosen to challenge it in the constitutionally designated forum, which is the Supreme Court.”
Nana Addo also called on Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams and the leadership of the National Association of Charismatic and Christian Churches at the premises of the Action Chapel International for the same purpose.
Nana Addo also shared time with the TUC leadership where made clear to the TUC why the NPP was heading for the law court.
On Friday Nana Addo’s next stop was a meeting with the Christian Council of Ghana where he reiterated the party’s position to contest the election result in court.
In all the meeting, one outstanding thing was NPP’s leader’s repeated assurances to Ghanaians that he will not do anything to curtail the peace that Ghana has enjoyed over the years.
According to Nana Addo it is not and will not be the interest of his party and that of any politician to set his own country on fire just because he wants to be a leader. – THE GHANAIAN SUN
