Agona Nsaba (C/R), May 7, GNA – A five-member Committee has been formed to reconcile feuding factions at the Agona East Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over last week’s parliamentary primaries. The Committee, which comprised council members of the party, is expected to restore peace and stability among members towards attaining victory in the December election.
Mr Dennis Armah-Frempong, District Chief Executive for Agona East who told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Agona Nsaba said the rational was to forge a good relationship between the incumbent MP, Mr John Kwesi Agyabeng who won the primaries and Mr Richard Asiedu, his opponent as well as the Constituency Chairman.
Mr Armah-Frempong said some supporters of Mr Aseidu were agitating that, they would vote “skirt and blouse” (That is vote for an NPP presidential candidate and against its parliamentary aspirant). He noted that, every single vote was important and there was the need to bring everybody on board.
Mr Agyabeng polled 65 votes to beat Mr Asiedu, the Assin North District Coordinator of the National Youth Council who obtained 43 votes in the last week parliamentary primaries. Mr Armah-Frempong said the Committee would meet the various factions next week to smoke the peace pipe.
He noted that, the NPP could not afford to lose the Parliamentary seat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He appealed to the supporters of the party in the area to bury their political differences since the task ahead of them was enormous and urged them to work hard to emerge victorious. As the new DCE of Agona East, Mr Armah-Frempong said rehabilitation of feeder roads to facilitate food evacuation from hinterland to market centres, would be a major priority for him.
