“I respect the NPP’s position but I disagree…boycotting a function is not an exclusivity of one party. It cannot be the tradition of just one party and coming from the side of the National Democratic Congress, I think it is hypocritical and insincere,” asserts Editor-In-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako Jnr.
The seasoned journalist was speaking to the ongoing National Economic Forum and the New Patriotic Party’s decision not to participate in the event.
“…In terms of NPP decision not to participate, I respect it. I can appreciate where they are coming from but I disagree. They should have gone to use that platform to articulate their views. If I were in the position to advice, I would have advised them to participate,” he said.
The NPP boycotted the ongoing 4-day event which is taking place at Akosombo because they did not receive their invitation letter on time.
The party further claims even if they attend the event, no amount of suggestion they offer will be taken by the ruling government because they (NDC) have already made up their mind.
On the other hand, Government communicators have criticized this move accusing the opposition party of always boycotting events organized by the ruling government, adding they (NPP) are bereft of any meaningful suggestions or inputs.
But contributing to a panel discussion on Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’, Kweku Baako said boycotting is not “an exclusivity of one party. It cannot be the tradition of just one party and coming from the side of the National Democratic Congress, I think it is hypocritical and insincere”.
