The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has debunked the accusations leveled against its flagbearer by officials of the government over his letters purportedly written to justify the request for the payment of judgement debts to a company called Great Cape Ltd.
The party says, the press conference held on Monday on the issue by leading members of the government were a “desperate attempt to create confusion and diversions around their payments of judgment debts/settlement claims.”
The government slammed Nana Akufo-Addo describing him as hypocritical and untruthful in the issue of judgment debt at a press conference on Monday.
Deputy Information Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, stated that it is shocking how Nana Addo played an active role in demanding an amount of $1.1 million to be paid to Great Cape and still state that he will ensure that such controversies do not happen under his governance.
A statement issued by the party and signed by its Communications Director, Nana Akomea on Tuesday said: “Nana Akufo-Addo has not been blamed for any wrong doing. The basis of his opinion has not been questioned. His conduct has not been faulted.”
The party said despite all the audits conducted by the government on Nana Akufo-Addo’s stewardship while in office, nothing has been found to impugn his integrity in public service.
According to the NPP, even though governments in the 4th Republic have had to pay some debts and settlements, “the payments or settlements during the Mills’ Presidency have attracted much national anguish and condemnation because some of the payments involving huge amounts, have been attended by clearly improper and buildering conduct, bordering on the fraudulence, as evidenced by the cases involving Mr. Woyome, C P, Africa Automobile Limited and Isofoton, among others.”
They are therefore calling for the prosecution of those who have been “delinquent and shown inexplicable conduct in safeguarding the monies of the people,” rather than the propaganda smoke screens put out to confuse people.**
