Northern Region benefits from conflict managt training workshop

Bole, June 30, GNA- More than 60 participants from the Northern Region have benefited from a community skills training workshop to handle conflict situations in their localities through, dialogue, arbitration and negotiations.

Ghana Network for Peace Building (GHANEP) and the Centre for Rural Improvement Service, organized the workshop with funding from IBIS West Africa, a Danish non-governmental organisation. The participants drawn from Sawla- Tuna-Kalba district comprised assembly members, political party representatives, security personnel, chiefs and opinion leaders.

They were exposed to topics like conflict identification, legal and security ways of handling conflict and the general overview of managing conflicts.

Mr Felix Naah Sabie, National Coordinator of GHANEP, said the workshop had enhanced the capacity of the participants in peace building to react appropriately during conflict situations.

He said it was only when the cause of a conflict was established that sustainable peace building could be achieved. Mr Sabie expressed the need for early warning signals to nip conflicts in the bud.

Alhaji Sulemana Achanso, out-going Bole District Chief Executive, said the diverse nature of conflicts called for a concerted effort by all well-meaning Ghanaians to tone down its adverse impact.
