North American Women’s Association gives to two organisations

Bolgatanga, Nov. 5, GNA – The North American Women’s Association (NAWA) in Ghana, on Tuesday presented a cheque for 14 million cedis to two women Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs) operating in the Upper East Region.

The organisations are the Widows and Orphans Ministry (WOM), which received three million cedis to purchase a donkey and a cart, and the Zuarungu Women’s Cottage, which also got 11 million cedis for disbursement to its members as start up capital for their basketry and tie and dye business.

Mr. Basko Kante, a friend of NAWA, who presented the cheque to the organisations on behalf of the Association, urged the beneficiaries to use the money for the purpose for which it had been given.

He said NAWA was prepared to support any organised group that seeks to engage in businesses to improve upon their lives, but emphasised that such organisations should be genuine and active.

Receiving the cheque, a staff of WOM, Miss Asana Chaahaah, thanked NAWA for the donation and pledged to use it for the purpose for which it requested the funds.

She appealed to individuals, philanthropic organisations, and NGOs to support the cause of WOM, since the requirements of needy widows and orphans are far beyond the capability of the Ministry.
