Non eligible voters asked to stay away from polling stations

Asesewa (E/R), Nov. 22, GNA- The Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Mr Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu has advised all non eligible voters to stay away from the polling stations during the Presidential and Parliamentary elections on December 7.

He said there was the need for all Ghananaians to adhere to the polling procedure to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections. Mr Baah-Wiredu gave the advice in a speech read on his behalf at the 21st anniversary and third Speech and Prize-Giving Day of the Asesewa Community Day Secondary School, at Asesewa in the Manya Krobo District.

He said the crusade against indiscipline was on course, despite the recent unruly behaviour by some students.

Mr Baah-Wiredu said Government had committing 12 million dollars to support the New Educational Reform Programme.

The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Gustav Narh-Dormetey said the President, Mr John Agyekum Kufuor had adopted the School as a model educational facility and had subsequently directed the Education Ministry to improve upon the teaching and learning facilities. He said it was only through education that poverty could be reduced in the area and asked parents to enrol their children in school.

The founder of the school, Mr Charles K. Narh said he started the school in 1966, when the Mount Mary Training College, failed to admit students from the Upper Manya area on the grounds that they failed to make the minimum grade to the college.
