Feyiase, Aug. 9, GNA – The Fanteakwa District Director of Education, Mr Stephen Peter-Andoh, has said that the district directorate would no longer come to the assistance of teachers who fall prey to “Shylock money lenders”.
In a speech read for him at an end-of-year get-together for teachers in the Feyiase Circuit at Feyiase, near Begoro on Friday, Mr Peter-Andoh expressed regret that despite the call on teachers to join the Teachers’ Welfare Union to enable them to contract soft loans from the Union, some recalcitrant teachers continued to contract loans from “Shylock moneylenders” at compound interest.
The practice, he noted, had led to some moneylenders charging on defaulting teachers while in classrooms, thus disrupting their work. He asked teachers to live up to expectation in the discharge of their duties with the same seriousness “as you continue to agitate for the restoration of ‘Cap 30’ pension scheme”.
Mr Peter-Andoh expressed concern at the poor performance of pupils in some of the primary schools and urged teachers in those areas to improve on their output “since that is the bedrock of the children’s educational ladder”.
The Circuit Supervisor of Education for the Ahomahomasu area, Mr Cephas Noagbesenu, asked head teachers to desist from condoning teachers who secretly left their profession and gained employment in other organisations but continued to receive salary from the GES.
He warned that, such head teachers and teachers would be prosecuted when the truth was established.
