No funds to pay stranded UK students – GETFund

The Public Relation Officer of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) Stephen Baffoe has stated that they do not have enough funds to pay the allowances and fees of the many Ghanaian frustrated students studying in the UK and other parts of Europe on scholarships.

The stranded students risk being dismissed from their universities and accommodations as the GET Fund has delayed the process in disbursing monies to settle their bills.

Speaking to XYZ News, Fred Dodoo, a student on the scholarship programme said, “It’s been very difficult, we have been given two days to evict our accommodation, and have been living on the benevolence of our friends.”

According to Mr Baffoe, GETFund is trying and is still dedicated to their responsibility.

He, however, added that quite a number of the students have received their fees and their living allowances.

He said,

“What we have done exceeds about 95 percent of the number of students there, it is not the best, and I am not justifying any claim”

He also added that he sympathizes with their situation, whilst it has never been the intention of the organization to get the scholarship students frustrated.

He added that, they will disburse the funds to the students once the Ministry of Finance releases the money to them.
