No feeding grants for SSS Form One students

Nandom (UW), March 5, GNA – The Reverend Brother Kamwaa Cosmas, Headmaster of the Nandom Senior Secondary School has appealed to the government to release feeding grants for first year students of the schools to enable them to operate smoothly.

Reverend Brother Cosmas made the call when Mr Ambrose Dery, Deputy Attorney-General and Minister of Justice donated a computer valued at 20 million cedis to the school.

He said no feeding grants for these category of students had been received from the Scholarship Secretariat since they were admitted in October last year.

According to him, they had been relying on what was allocated to the second and third year students to cater for form one students but that could not continue for long.

Rev. Cosmas catalogued a series of problems besetting the school despite the fact that it was one of the best public Senior Secondary Schools in Northern Ghana, placing 28th out of 476 public SSS in the last examinations.

desperately in need of means of transport as it relied on a small old Bedford truck, which frequently breaks down, while their only second-hand bus acquired some years ago, had also broken down.

He said because the school is located in a rural area it finds it difficult in retaining teachers. The Headmaster also appealed to the government to provide the Nandom township with telephone facilities so that staff and students could communicate to their relations outside the area. Mr Dery assured the students that he would do his best to assist in finding solutions to some of the problems facing the school. 05 March 04
