No Change In Road Design, Says Ministry

The Ministry of Roads and Transport has denied that there have been changes to the original designs of the Circle-Achimota portion of the Accra-Kumasi road reconstruction.

It has also described as baseless and false, allegations that officials of the Department of Urban roads (DUR) had been influenced to change the original road designs to benefit some people.

It will be recalled that a report GHANAIAN TIMES issue of March 10, said the Ministry had received a number of petitions made against officials of the DUR alleging corruption. There were allegations that some of them h ad been influenced to change the original designs of the road.

After the publication, a delegation from the Ministry reportedly went to the spot where the diversion allegedly took place to examine it.

Mr. Ken Anku, Head of Public relations of the Ministry, told the times that the petition by Emmanuel Twumasi Amoah, Managing Director of Majok Consultacy Services, cited in the March 10 story, had given a new twist to the road project.

Mr. Anku pointed out that Amoah?s building was illegally situated in the middle of the road reservation, besides he did not have a building permit.

Mr. Amoah is fighting over an illegality. Hs structure, which is the only permanent one in the area, can be pulled down should there be future road expansion,? Mr. Anku said. He described as false, a statement by Mr. Amoah that he was not consulted before the project.
