NMC gets new Executive Secretary

Accra, June 2, GNA – The National Media Commission (NMC) on Friday appointed Mr George Sarpong as it new Executive Secretary. A statement signed by Mr Paul Adu-Gyamfi, Chairman of the Commission, said Mr Sarpong had a considerable experience as a consultant on media regulation in West Africa.

Until his appointment, he was the Executive Director of the Youth Network for Human Rights and Democracy, a network, which works with rural youth to increase their involvement in democracy. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (English), Post-Graduate Diploma and a Master of Philosophy in Communication Studies from University of Ghana before proceeding to the law school.

George has taught in many institutions including the Ghana Institute of Journalism; School of Communication Studies; School of Translators and Accra Polytechnic.

He had also been a consultant for several organizations on media governance including the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung; UNDP; Commonwealth Secretariat; USAID, the International Centre for Transitional Justice, (New York); UNESCO and Ghana Centre for Democratic Development, the statement said.

He is also a member of Ghana Journalists’ Association, the International Press Institute and the Ghana Bar Association.
