Baabiani (B/A), Jan 29, GNA – Mr James Kwabena Appiah-Awuah, Nkoranza District Chief Executive has warned against group hunting in the district, saying, culprits when caught would be dealt with severely. The people of Baabiani and Bredi Number One told the DCE during his tour of the communities that some youth from the Zongo community in Techiman embarked on group hunting expeditions in the district and in the process cause bushfires that destroyed their farms. The DCE undertook the tour to acquaint himself with the problems facing the people and to help them initiate development programmes. The people complained that for more than four years the Zongo youth have been carrying out the practice and all efforts to stop them had not been successful.
“During such expeditions, they would also steal our foodstuffs from the farms”, they said and appealed to the DCE for assistance to check the negative practice by the youth. Mr George Ampeinti, Assembly Member of Baabiani advised the youth to be vigilant and help stamp out the practice, especially in the harmattan season. He appealed to the Nkoranza District Assembly to construct a borehole for the people of Baabiani to slove their water problems. Mr Appiah-Awuah expressed grave concern about the group-hunters and promised to contact the Techiman Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Prince Yaw Donyina for a solution. He appealed to the people to exercise restraint pending his discussion with the MCE and avoid any confrontation between the people of the two towns. The DCE advised the youth of Techiman Zongo to desist from causing problems for themselves, as culprits when caught, would not be spared.
