Nkawie (Ash), Nov. 9, GNA – The Atwima District Court, sitting at Nkawie has remanded Nana Kwasi Oduro, Nkawie-Panin Mawerehene in connection with a recent shooting incident at Nkawie-Panin.
Nana Oduro, whose plea was not taken, will re-appear on November 14.
A 17-year old boy, Kwaku Ofori alias Kontoh who was in the dock with the chief, was however granted bail in the sum of 50 million cedis to re-appear on the same date.
Giving the facts of the case, Police Chief Inspector Christopher Osei Adwedee, told the court presided over by Mr Kwaku Dampare, that about two months ago, a man known only as “MANN”, went to Nkawie-Panin and assaulted one Madam Wangara and fled.
The prosecution said on October 5, MANN came back to Nkawie-Panin to attend a funeral.
He said the youth from both Nkawie-Panin and Nkawie-Kuma on hearing that MANN was in the town decided to mobilise themselves and to also attack him at the Nkawie-Panin chief’s palace. The prosecutor said pandemonium erupted in the cause of the attack on MANN, and from nowhere, a gunshot was fired, which hit Madam Adwoa Kontoh.
Inspector Adwedee said the 17 year-old boy, Kwaku Ofori was immediately arrested on suspicion.
According to the prosecution thorough interrogation and investigation led to the arrest of the chief.
Although upon interrogation the chief admitted having a gun he claimed he had loaned it to a hunter a year ago at Sreso, but this was denied by the hunter when the police contacted him.
The prosecution said the hunter said the chief delivered the gun to him in October this year.
After investigations, the chief and Kwaku Ofori were charged with the offence.
