Nigerian jailed 20 years for defilement

Koforidua, Jan 14, GNA – A Circuit Court at Koforidua has sentenced a 29-year-old Nigerian trader to 20 years imprisonment for defiling an eight-year old primary two girl at Wurapong, near Obawale in the Yilo Krobo District.

John Christopher pleaded not guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Superintendent Elizabeth Allandu, told the court that on December 26, 2003 the accused, who lived in the same premises with the victim, sent her to fetch water for him.

On bringing the water, Christopher dragged her to a nearby bush, blindfolded her with his shirt and forcibly had sex with her. The cries of the victim drew people to the scene but on seeing them, the accused bolted. The victim was taken home, a report made to the Obawale police and the accused was arrested.
