Nigerian in court for forgery, stealing

Accra, Nov.8, GNA – An unemployed Nigerian, who allegedly forged Societ=E9-Generale-Social Security Bank (SG SSB) customer Identity Card (ID) and succeeded in withdrawing 15.6 million cedis from the Bank on Tuesday appeared before a Circuit Court in Accra.

Famous Apiloko charged with forging documents, possessing and uttering forged documents and stealing pleaded not guilty. The court admitted Apiloko to a 50 million-cedi bail with a surety to reappear on December 6.

The Prosecution told the court that the complainant was Mr Patrick Bumie, a Liberian student residing at Sowutuom in Accra. Prosecution said Ms Winnie Kniok, a friend of the complainant domiciled in Hong Kong, was sponsoring his education.

Ms Kniok had been remitting Mr Bumie through Western Union Money Transfer regularly and on July 7, this year, he received a message from Kniok through an the e-mail informing him that he had sent 1,756 dollars to him.

The following day, Mr Bumie went to Global Access Western Union at Lapaz in Accra where he was told that Apiloko, who presented SG-SSB ID car bearing the name of Mr Bumie had withdrawn the money. The Prosecution said investigation led to the arrest of Apiloko and during interrogation, he admitted the offence and pleaded to be allowed to refund the money.
