NGO Donates To Schools Around Kakum Park

The Ghana Heritage Conservation Trust (GHCT), a non-governmental organisation yesterday donated teaching and learning material valued 31 million cedis to 28 schools in three districts in the proximity of the Kakum National Park in the Central Region.

The items included exercise books, pens, pencils and wall clocks, would be distributed to two schools in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese, 10 in the Assin and 16 in the Twifo-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira districts.

Presenting the items, Mrs Valerie Anne Sackey, Chairman of the Parks Committee of the GHCT Board, said the donation was the contribution of the NGO towards the promotion of education, adding that, it was also part of the organisation’s social responsibility to the areas it operated. She said plans were far advance to establish a scholarship scheme for needy students around the park.

The Trust, apart from conserving the environment also undertake development projects and is supporting the re-roofing of the Elmina Castle and the rehabilitation of two schools at Tweapease and Antwikwaa in the Twifo-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira district. She said the Trust is developing a youth camp at Assin Kruwa.

Mrs Justina Esinam Tordjagbo, Central Regional Director of Education, commended the Trust for contributing towards the educational needs of the people to improve teaching and learning. She urged the beneficiary communities to make use of the items and to guard against pilfering.

Mr. Cletus Nateg, Senior Wildlife Officer also praised the Trust for living up to its social responsibility, adding that, “their work in the Kakum Park has brought a lot of development to the people”.
