he African Youth Orchestra and the Dance Factory, two youth resident groups at the National Theatre, are to perform alongside the Natal Philharmonic Orchestra in a concert dubbed ”Crossing Rhythms” in Durban, South Africa, on August 22.

The South African government’s invitation is the first offer ever extended to any African country on the cultural level.

The concert, which will be attended by South African President Nelson Mandela and leaders of the (opposition) National Party, will project a blended version of South African and Ghanaian dance, music and drama.

Kumasi Operations of timber firms, sawmills and loggers are being adversely affected by the fuel shortage.

Mr. Fosuaba Mensah-Banahene, Executive Secretary of the Ghana Timber Millers Organisation, in an interview with the GNA, appealed to the government to speed up measures to bring the situation back to normal.

He noted that fuel should be available at all times for effective and efficient operations in the timber industry since most of the timber firms use about 200 gallons of fuel in two weeks in full operation.

Accra Parliament reconvened today to commence the second meeting of its first session.

During this session, the public records administration bill, national fire service bill, road fund bill and the Ghana highway authority bill will be laid.

About seven papers, including the annual report of the presidential office staff for 1996, foreign NGO’s agreements, trade marks amendment regulations, 1997, international coffee agreement and the report of the national commission for civic education will also be brought before the house.
