The Akyem Mine of Newmont Golden Ridge Limited (NGRL), a gold mining company, has hosted a press soiree for Eastern Region journalists in Koforidua.
It is an annual event organized by the company at the end of every year to show their appreciation to the media in the region for their continuous support in highlighting activities of the company in the year.
Mr Oduro Kwarteng Marfo, the External Affairs Manager for Newmont Akyem Mine, said the mining sector globally was facing serious challenges and Newmont was no exception.
He said in spite of the challenges, the company would not renege on its corporate social responsibilities.
Mr Maxwell Kudekor, the Eastern Regional Secretary of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), thanked Newmont for sustaining the relationship between the press and the company.
He said the GJA would embark on many major activities in 2015 which would seek to make the Association more vibrant.
