Newmont Akyem Mines to build five kilometre road

Newmont Golden Ridge Limited (Akyem Mines) is funding the construction of the five-kilometre Camp Junction-Akyem Ntronang road in the Birim North District.

The project is meant to facilitate the movement of goods and services in the area to better the lives of the people.

The job had been awarded to Top Construction Limited and it is expected to be ready by the close of coming November.

Mr. Ofosu Agyei, Community Relations Superintendent of the Mining Company, said this was part of its corporate social responsibility.

He pledged its determination to continue be associated with efforts at bringing development to the people through the provision of education, health and roads infrastructure.

He used the occasion to appeal to the chiefs and people in the mining communities to make sure that any misunderstanding between them and the company was resolved through dialogue.

Mr. Charles Adubofour, Eastern Regional Director of the Ghana Highways Authority, urged the contractors to ensure quality job so that there would be value for money.

It should also do everything to meet the deadline to spare travelers any inconveniences, he added.

Obrempong Kwasi Amoh Kyeretwie, the chief of Abirem and acting Akyem Kotoku Gyaasehene, said they were grateful to Newmont for project, noting that, it would promote economic activities in the area.
