New VIP Lounge for KIA

Accra, Oct. 26, GNA – The VIP Lounge at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) is to be re-named the VVIP Lounge. A new VIP Lounge would as a result be located at the arrivals hall of the Airport. Ms Gloria Afua Akuffo, Minister of Aviation, made this known on Wednesday in Accra, when she met with a section of workers at the Lounge as well as others, who enjoyed facilities at the Lounge in various ways. She noted that the VIP lounge was of great significance to national security, adding that lapses in security could even have international implications, since it also served members of the international community.

Ms Akuffo said new measures would also be put in place to ensure that only people with the proper certification enjoyed the facilities at the Lounge. She said the measures formed part of plans to reinforce security at the entire Airport.

With the introduction of the new measures, which would take effect from November 1 2006, strict measures and procedures would be put in place to ensure that only persons authorised to use the VVIP and the VIP lounges, respectively, had access to those facilities.

Lists of persons authorised to use both facilities as well as new procedures covering their usage have been made available to all stake-holders.
