New irrigation system for GLAACO Farms

Accra, April 10, GNA – The Management of GLAACO Farms, a Ghana-Libya joint venture company, would soon construct a new irrigation system to ensure regular availability of water for profitability of its farm operations.

A statement from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning on Monday, signed by Miss Cecilia Akewtey, Public Relations Officer, said the Company had also taken measures to control the disease/pest infections on the farms to improve agronomical practices.

The statement said the measures were expected to increase job opportunities in the area, Mr Henry Otoo Mensah, Farm Manager of GLAACO, a fruit growing and exporting company, disclosed this to a delegation from the Ministry led by Mr Robert Poku Kyei, Special Advisor to the Finance Minister, last week.

It said the delegation was on a follow-up visit to the Farms at Sogakope, to ascertain the extent of problems as observed by the Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama, during his recent tour of the Volta Region.

GLAACO Farms, which started operation in 1983, covers an area of 3,360 hectares and has Mr Kwadwo Baah Wiredu, as Chairman of the Board of Directors.
