Elmina, Aug. 12, GNA – Mr Samuel Tettey, Central Regional Director of Electoral Commission (EC), on Tuesday assured eligible voters who registered but could not take photographs that a new date would be fixed for them.
Mr Tettey gave the assurance after touring some registration centres in Cape Coast, Elmina, Moree and Abura Dunkwa. Accompanied by Mr Ebenezer Kofi Hagan, Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) District Electoral Officer, Mr Tettey said the Commission would meet to decide on the period for the taking of photographs. He said the EC would ensure all eligible voters were provided with identity cards.
At Market Square Gardens registration centre at Elmina, Mr Paul Arhin, Registration Officer, said the exercise had been smooth and only one person registered at 1021 hours on Tuesday and 537 eligible voters registered since the exercise begun on July 31. However, registration officers at Ayensudo and Ampenyi centres in KEEA were of the view that the exercise should not have been extended but rather another date set aside for the taking of photographs. About 551 eligible voters registered at the two centres. Mr Kobina Appiah, Registration Officer at Pedu Municipal Assembly Primary school registration centre in Cape Coast, said even though 801 eligible voters registered, 137 of them were yet to have their photographs taken.
Mr Richard Baidoo, Registration Officer at Obrakyew and Kotukotue registration centres at Abura Dunkwa, said 513 eligible voters registered and some of them were yet to take their photographs. There were no queues at all the centres on the last day of the exercise with only registration officers and agents of National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) present.
