Neighbourhood watch committee smashes fuel-stealing gang

Adiembra (Ash), March 14, GNA – The Neighbourhood Watch Committee of Agogoso in the Atwima-Mponua District has arrested two members of a fuel stealing gang at Agogoso near Adiembra. They are Akwasi Ameyaw and Yaw Anthony while the other two members of the syndicate are on the run.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency at Adiembra on Monday Police Inspector James Attaglo, officer in-charge of the police post, said on the night of March 03 the four persons, who have been stealing fuel from wayside filling stations and heavy-duty equipment of contractors in the district at gunpoint, went to Agogoso.

The gang put off the streetlights and this raised suspicion of the neighbourhood watch committee who went to put the lights on. Inspector Attaglo said when the lights came on the committee saw the four men siphoning fuel from a caterpillar belonging to a contractor working on the Agogoso-Nantedi feeder road. He said the watch committee managed to arrest Ameyaw and Anthony but the other two managed to escape. A day later the taxi, which was used in the operation, was found burnt to ashes by unknown people.
