The Minister for Economic Planning and Regional Integration was on Thursday sacked from Parliament for improper dressing. According to the Parliamentary dress code, members of the House are supposed to be dressed in Western style suits, political suits or the flowing African wear (Agbada), Batakari etc. Mr Nduom entered the House when the Energy Minister was explaining issues raised in the President’s sessional address.
The Majority who saw Mr Nduom enter the House in his short sleeves shirt with no tie could not alert him on the dressing code of the House.
It took the bravery of an NDC MP, Amos Buerty to call the attention of the Speaker by standing up. When called by the Speaker to make his statement, he said ”there is a Minister in the chamber who is not properly dressed in accordance with the dress code of the House”.
The Speaker asked who it was and the Minority pointed to the Minister who was still on his feet. This generated comments from his colleagues claiming the man lacks knowledge of Parliamentary codes.
The shouting continued from the Minority until Dr Nduom went out amidst smiling, indicating he has accepted his fault. In 10 minutes time, he came back with an arrogant smile dressed in a suit.
He was then accepted into the chamber to listen to the budget statement that was the matter on the floor. The Speaker conferred the title ”MP for dress scrutiny” on Mr Amos Buerty which he accepted in good faith.
