The National Development Planning Commission has met the Parliamentary select committee on poverty reduction to deliberate on President John Mahama’s ‘Transformation Agenda’ known officially as the Coordinated Programme of Economic and Social Development Policies, 2014-2020.
The policy document contains strategies geared towards sending development to every corner of the country to reduce poverty and consolidate growth.
The meeting between the development agenda setters and the lawmakers also discussed the second Ghana Shared Growth Development Agenda (GSGDA II).
This policy document also covers the period 2014 to 2017 and is based on the Transformation Agenda.
President Mahama has presented these two documents to Parliament. The Director General of the NDPC Dr. Nii Moi Thompson at the meeting indicated that the successful implementation of the interventions outlined in the document, which reflects development aspirations of all Ghanaians, would move Ghana closer to its long-term vision of building a just, free and prosperous society.
Chairman of the Select Committee on Poverty Reduction, George Arthur pledged the support of the committee to the Commission’s ongoing efforts to build its capacity for national development.
The Chairman of the Commission Dr. Kwesi Botchwey also underscored the need to attach a great deal of seriousness to the implementation of the President’s Coordinated Programme once it has been adopted by Parliament.
In a statement, the NDPC said the legislators are expected to debate the two policy documents when they return from recess.
