NDC’s failure inexcusable – Bawumia

The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has no justification for failing to sustain the social intervention programmes it inherited from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government in 2008 given that the country is producing oil in commercial quantities, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, vice presidential candidate of the opposition NPP, has said.

According to him, Ghana as a country should have been far advanced than what is being experienced now with the oil find, coupled with the huge amount of money borrowed by the government.

The NPP during its eight years in office introduced social intervention programmes including the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), National School Feeding Programme, Capitation Grant, Metro Mass Transit, Mass Cocoa Spraying, free maternal health care among others. But the NPP believes the NDC government has collapsed all these interventions.

Dr Bawumia has, therefore, asked Ghanaians to vote for the NPP on Wednesday, 7 December to push Ghana up the development ladder.

The former Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana tweeted on Tuesday November 29: “When it comes to every major social intervention, the Mahama-led NDC government says there is no money. We have to end this. With the discovery of oil and their high borrowing record, the NDC has no excuse for their failure to sustain social intervention programmes.”

He added that the NPP was able to “accomplish a lot more for the country with less resources.”
