NDC Vice Chairperson Appeals To Kufuor

A National Vice Chairperson of the NDC, Hilda N. Salifu has made an urgent and passionate appeal to President Kufuor to commute the jail sentences imposed on three former Ministers of state in the NDC regime in the now infamous Quality Grain case.

She said her demand was for the President to invoke the powers conferred on him by the constitution to mitigate or completely quash the prison terms of Kwame Peprah, Dr George Sipa Yankey and Ibrahim Adam as part of the national reconciliation process, to promote peace and unity.

”If by constitutional powers he can pardon a person who has been condemned to death, why not this”, she asked.

Madam Salifu noted that by the imprisonment of the three, the NPP government has set a new and dangerous precedence of political vendetta for generations yet unborn.

According to her, anybody serving in government today or tomorrow should be prepared to go to jail for any perceived act of ”causing financial loss to the state, omission and commission under the present ambiguous law”. – Times
