NDC Not Invited – Bagbin

The Minority Leader in Parliament, Hon. Alban Bagbin claims that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has not been invited to take part in the forthcoming Golden Jubilee of the country’s independence.

Speaking to Daily Guide in an interview yesterday, the Minority Leader stated that no formal invitation in the form of a letter or correspondence in any other form had been extended to the party by the government. What came to them from government about the celebration, he pointed out, was only a verbal notice and not a document invitation.

“It was only a notice that we would be invited for the celebrations.”

Explaining what transpired when a delegation of eminent personalities was dispatched to the former President on the forthcoming celebration, the Minority Leader said the mission did not bear details.

“The former president invited some of us to join him in receiving the delegation when he was informed about their coming.

When we asked for details about the celebrations, especially as to whether the former president could bring his wife along or whether the flagbearer, Prof. J. E. A. Mils was invited, they said they had no mandate to talk on such details,” he said.He said the NDC does not want to behave as though it was intent on undermining the celebrations, adding that the former President did not give any conditions for attending the celebrations.

“When the delegation turned up we thought they were coming to discuss the stalemate between the incumbent president and the former president but this was not to be.”

The NDC, which he said was yet to come out with its position on the celebrations, was still waiting for in an invitation from government to partake in the events.
